HRC Statement on President Obama’s Proposalfor Immigration Reform
Blueprint includes family-based immigrationfor same-sex couples, pathway to citizenship
WASHINGTON –Today, in conjunction with a speech on immigration reform in Nevada, PresidentObama released the outline of his comprehensive immigration reform proposal. Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin released the following statementin support:
“Every day,thousands of bi-national same-sex couples are confronted with the uncertaintyof immigration laws that treat them as strangers. They face the impossibledilemma of having to choose between love and country.
PresidentObama continues to demonstrate his tremendous leadership on behalf of ourcommunity by recognizing that fixing our nation’s flawed immigration systemmust include relief for these loving, committed couples and theirfamilies. In addition, by establishing a path to citizenship forundocumented immigrants, including children brought into this country by theirparents, the President’s plan will help millions of individuals at our nation’smargins.”
