Washington State Votes for Full Equality
Marriage win rounds out landslide sweep ofballot measures
WASHINGTON-- Upon news that Washington State voters affirmed marriage equality at theballot box, Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin issued the followingstatement:
“Washingtonvoters sent a resounding message that nothing less than marriage is fullequality for gay and lesbian couples. This victory rounds out a landslide sweepof all four marriage ballot measures this November.
“We stoodwith Washingtonians in passing and protecting Domestic Partnerships and wecould not be more proud to have stood with them every step of the way in thiscampaign. This win is a sure sign that momentum is on our side, and withthe growing majority of Americans supporting marriage equality, more stateswill soon join Washington in protecting all families.
“This winwould not have been possible without Governor Gregoire’s steadfast commitmentand the leadership of the business community in the state, putting themselvessquarely on the right side of history.
“WashingtonUnited for Marriage ran a remarkable campaign under the leadership of Zach Silkand HRC’s steering committee and board member Lacey All were in the fight fromthe very beginning.”
HRC is proudto have contributed more than $1.4 million to advance marriage equality inWashington. The organization also sent 600,000 emails to supporters ofmarriage equality and we’ve helped recruit nearly 1,000 volunteers and sentstaff to work on the campaign.
